In the Summer term the children worked with poet Paul Cookson, creating their own poetry. After this, they joined together with other schools for a poetry recital. Below are photos and video of their performance.

During the Spring term Year 5 have been learning about the rainforest and have signed up to the Sky RainforestRescue Schools Challenge to help protect the rainforests. For more information about the challenge you can visit the sky website by clicking here.

Each of our three teams have worked through the initial investigation stage of the challenge and are now taking action!

Watch the videos below to see what they are doing and how you can support them!

In February 2013 the class were invited to Garstang Community Academy for a taste of high school life! They took part in a science lesson, turning flames green with copper and burning magnesium for a pure white flame.

The 2012 junior Christmas production includes this rendition of "I'll be there" which was also sent in to Radio 2's Breakfast Show for inclusion in Chris Evan's show.

In November, inspired by The Great British Bake Off, Year 5 staged their very own Great Year 5 Bake Off in school. After some practice sessions with residents of the nearby Abbeyfield residential home, the children were given a basic cupcake recipe and working in groups, adapted the recipe to make it their own. Staff judges (there were lots of volunteers!) then undertook a blind test before declaring the raspberry and white chocolate cakes the winners.

During the Autumn term Year Five were learning about Ancient Greece and its Myths and Legends. As part of this work the class went on a trip to the Harris Museum where they learned about various myths and were able to handle artefacts. Pilling Pottery's master potter, Jim, then came in to work with the class on producing their own Greek Pots.

Early in the school year Year Five completed a project on healthy eating. As part of this they went in to Garstang, to Booth's Supermarket and bought ingredients to make their own healthy lunch in class. All the groups were given specific items to shop for and handled their own budgets on the shopping trip.
