Premier League Football Tournament at Ewood Park

March 2011

St Thomas' adventure started in February with the first round of the competition at Ewood Park’s Soccer Dome. The squad played brilliantly in all of the matches, only conceding one goal. As group winners, St Thomas' were invited back to the second round to play other winners including teams from Chorley, Preston, Pendle and Lancaster. The boys played brilliantly winning all their group matches.  In the semi finals, we played Slyne-with-Hest from Morecambe (who were after revenge after we’d beaten them in the qualifiers and also in the tag rugby finals at the Lancashire Youth Games). It was a very tough semi final, but after extra time, we emerged triumphant. The final was against Feniscowles of Blackburn.  With our top scorer being on fire and scoring the winner, and a defence Bolton would have been proud of, we ran out the winners.

The excellent performances have reflected hard work on the training ground, and the committed, positive attitude of all the players and staff. The team is now looking forward to the challenge of playing teams from other parts of the country in the final stage of the FA Premier League competition
