Head Teacher's Welcome

Welcome to Garstang St Thomas’ CE Primary School.

This site has been put together by the children, staff and governors of the school. We hope that it helps you gain an understanding of how our school is organised and all the exciting opportunities available for children in our care. All schools have their own “personality” which makes them special. At St Thomas’ we believe that our growth mind set and our Christian faith inform this special personality. Our school continues to develop in exciting ways, providing a stimulating and enriching experience for our children.

The school was last inspected by Ofsted and the Church of England in May 2014 when we were judged to be an outstanding church school and to have outstanding features by Ofsted. The inspection report said “Standards at Key Stage 2 are above average in reading, writing and mathematics. An above-average proportion of pupils makes better than expected progress in reading and mathematics.  Children get off to a good start in the Reception class and all make good progress, so that the majority achieve a good level of development by the time they leave the Early Years Foundation Stage. Teaching is good and staff provide many high quality and exciting opportunities for pupils to learn well and make good progress in English, mathematics and other subjects. Pupils are very eager to learn and have high expectations of what they can achieve.

The quality of care that staff give pupils is exemplary, especially those who have additional needs or whose circumstances make them particularly vulnerable. All staff are committed to the school's highly supportive, Christian ethos and all new arrivals to the school community are welcomed with love and encouragement.  Governors are supportive, knowledgeable and have an accurate view of the school's performance. They have worked well with senior leaders to raise standards and further improve the quality of teaching."  The full Ofsted and SIAMS Reports are available on our school website.

I am extremely proud to lead a team that is committed to achieving high standards and providing the best opportunities for the children in our care. Staff, supported by governors, work hard to deliver a rich and challenging curriculum; preparing children for high school and helping them gain the skills and enthusiasm needed to pursue learning for later life.

The best way to find out about our school is to come and visit, to see us in action and meet the staff and children. Please call the school office on 01995 603454 to arrange this.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school and into the St Thomas’ family.
